HPL Training Resources

This guide contains information training resources for HPL staff.

Conduct

  • No eating at the desk.
  • No use of headphones at the desk
  • No friends hanging out at the desk
  • No loud/disruptive music/videos
  • No extended phone calls
  • All phones on silent when at desk.
  • Be respectful to all.
  • Smile and greet patrons that appear to need assistance.
  • Focus on the person you are helping, whether it is by phone, email or in person.
  • Immediately stop typing on the computer and focus on the patron you are assisting.
  • Observe the body language of the patron. Do they look rushed? Agitated? Happy? Sad? Take these things into account when providing service.
  • Remain calm and professional.

Appropriate dress for the desk

  • The goal for dress at the desk is "casual professional".
  • No short shorts if scheduled at the desk.
  • Revealing tops are subject to supervisor discretion (may be asked to cover up or go home and change if deemed inappropriate.
