Career Resources

It's never too early to start learning about possible careers.

What do you want to do?

What comes after college? Hopefully a career that you find fulfilling and interesting. As you progress in your career at Hunter, you should work closely with the people in Career Development Services (Hunter East, 8th Floor). 

You can also research careers of interest on your own. Below are some general tips for researching a career or industry. Visit the pages listed on the left for more industry-specific resources.

Google:

  • Set an alert (https://www.google.com/alerts) by company or industry

  • Remember to look at News results for your searches

  • Make sure that you know your company’s ticker symbol (if applicable)

Bureau of Labor Statistics

  • Government website that "is the principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy."
  • Publishes the Occupational Outlook Handbook which you can use to "help you find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and outlook for hundreds of occupations."
  • Also publishes Career Outlook , which provides "data and information on a variety of topics—including occupations and industries, pay and benefits, and more. These articles are helpful for students, career counselors, jobseekers, and others planning careers."

News sources:

  • Take advantage of free subscriptions by using your Hunter email to sign up for the New York Times (nytimes.com/passes) and the Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com/Hunter)

  • Look at other news sources as well: Crain's NY, Washington Post, etc.

  • Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) on 34th & Madison is part of the New York Public Library system.  Visit to use on-site databases and work with business librarians.
