It's up to you

Any source you locate has the potential to be of use to you for any given research project. It is up to you to decide which sources are the best, most appropriate sources for your particular assignment. Your professor will be looking at not only how you write, but what sources you chose to support your thesis.

The videos on this page will help you identify some of the characteristics of different types of articles you will come across in your research.

Below are two check lists or score cards for you to use when evaluating sources you find on the internet. They are especially helpful when evaluating websites - we all know the web can provide great content and information as well as a lot of garbage.

Be smart! Choose your sources mindfully! And if you have questions, please ask your professor or a librarian for help.

Source Evaluation Score Card

Use this handy score card to evaluate sources you find on the web and elsewhere. If the points add up, you have a winner! But always keep your purpose in mind. Ask yourself, is this source going to help me accomplish what I need to for this project?
