Pathways: Information Literacy Integration into the Hunter College Common Core
This is a planning document for integrating Information Literacy into the Hunter College Common Core. The Libraries' current instructional program is presented according to and aligned with the CUNY Pathway Common Core Structure: Required Core and Flexible Core.
Information Literacy (see below) is a set of standards and competencies defined by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. These standards, competencies and learning outcomes are at the core of the Libraries' instructional program across the curriculum at every level. They are also central to all courses in the Pathways common core: Required Core and Flexible Core.
Academic departments and individual faculty seeking to integrate information literacy into their programs and courses can also use this as a guide. It provides links to our Information Literacy Commons, subject specialists, web-based research guides, library collections and services.
Information Literacy Competencies
The Hunter College Libraries are committed to teaching the following information literacy competencies and
First-year college students should demonstrate the ability to recognize an information need and locate, evaluate and use information effectively and responsibly. These competencies are based on standards set by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Each of the following categories provides links to interactive tutorials and assessments from the Libraries' Information Literacy Commons; each tutorial can be copied and placed into course Bb sites.
