Reference Works
Reference works give you an overview of a subject, help you focus your topic idea, and tell you what the classic studies in the field are. A research handbook is a reference book with chapters by various authors that summarize the research on a particular issue. They can point you to the leading articles as of the time of publication, and you can then use ERIC or Google Scholar to bring your research down to the present.
