A Critique of the Local Food Movement

In August 2010 the New York Times ran an op-ed article by Stephen Budiansky called "Math Lessons for Locavores."  Budiansky attacks the belief that eating locally-grown food is kinder to the environment than eating foods grown far away and shipped in.  The article is worth reading as an example of how to fashion an argument and marshal evidence.

Budiansky writes a blog called The Liberal Curmudgeon.  He made the same argument in a shorter form in this blog entry.
