MLA Standards & Guidelines

Books

a.  Author(s) or editor(s): Arrange entries in alphabetical oder by authors' surnames (last names), or by title for sources without authors.

b.  The complete title. Italicize the title of the book.  Use an italic font that shows a marked difference from the regular font.

c. Edition, if indicated

d. Place of publication

e. The name of the publisher (shortened, if possible)

f. The date of publication

g. The medium of pblicaion

(Basic Example: Last name, First name.  Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year Publication. Print)

Article in Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers

a. Author(s)

b. Article title.  Must be placed in quotation marks ("...")

c. Publication title (journal, magazine, etc.) Must be italicized.

d. Volume Number

e. Publication date.

f. The inclusive page numbers.

g. Medium of publication.

(Basic Example: Last name, First name. "Article Title." Journal Name. Volume. Issue (year): First age- Last Page. Medium)

Website:

Name of Website in italics.   Name of organization or company assocated with the site.  Date published or updated. Date of access.
