Getting Started

When researching clothing, your inspiration and ideas will take you in many directions. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone of internet research and explore other options. In this guide are suggestions for other places to look for inspiration for your work, as well as technical guidelines for using library resources.

There are a variety of things you may need while conducting your research: images of clothing, descriptions and images of places, historical documents, criticism and analysis, and more. This guide will help you get started, and you are only limited by time and your imagination.

OneSearch

What is it?

Hunter OneSearch combines in one searchable place these three things: the CUNY library catalog which includes both print and e-books; a massive index of articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers; and unique digital content.

How can I access it?

How do I use it?

Enter your search terms, and use some of the many available filters to sort your results and find what you are looking for.

How do I know if it has images?

Words like "pictorial works," "ill." "illustrations" "color plates" indicate that the book contains images. Other places to look beyond clothing/costume/fashion include: art, painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, graphic design and more.

Can I view these online or in print?

You can filter your results to "full text available online" or to "books" depending on what you need.
